Canada: Native Bees

There are approximately 4,000 species of bees native to North America and more than 850 native to Canada. Many bee populations, however, are in decline due to habitat loss, pesticide use and climate change. On this nice Cover from Canada you can see two stamps dedicated to natives bees in Canada. The rare rusty-patched bumble bee (Bombus affinis) and its colourful and more common co-star, a metallic green bee (Agapostemon virescens). This Cover was cancelled in Tisdale, Saskatchewan, which is supposed to be the Honey captial of Saskatchewan, producing 10% of Canada's honey. For this reason the people of Tisdale built a large Bee (Dimensions: Height: 7 Feet (2.1 Metres) Wingspan: 11 Feet 6 Inches (3.5 Metres) Length: 16 Feet (4.9 Metres), which is the most famous attraction there.

Canada: Year of the Monkey International Rate Souvenir Sheet + Toronto Card

Some weeks ago I received this nice cover. On the cover you can see a nice Souvenir Sheet of the Year of the Monkey Issue. Besides the Domestic rate stamp I now have the international rate stamp, too. Inside the cover I also found a nice card of Toronto. On the card you can see the "CN Tower". It is a 553.33 m-high (1,815.4 ft) concrete communications and observation tower in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Built on the former Railway Lands, it was completed in 1976, becoming the world's tallest free-standing structure and world's tallest tower at the time. It held both records for 34 years until the completion of Burj Khalifa and Canton Tower in 2010.

Too bad, there is no cancellation on the stamp.

Canada: Year of the Monkey Domestic Stamp FDC

Today, I also received this nice FDC from Canada. The Year of the Monkey begins on February 8, 2016 and ends on January 27, 2017. Brilliance, flexibility and inventiveness are solid traits of those born under this simian sign, as are an excellent memory, skillfulness, an iron will and a strong drive to succeed. But beware: Monkeys are said to be easily discouraged by delays, tend to look down to others, and have a fast-flaring temper that (fortunately) cools down quickly. Passionate but sometimes flighty lovers, Monkeys are most compatible with Dragons and Rats.

Canada: Canadian Rockies

The Canadian Rockies comprise the Canadian segment of the North American Rocky Mountains. They are the eastern part of the Canadian Cordillera, which is a system of multiple ranges of mountains which runs from the Canadian Prairies to the Pacific Coast. The Canadian Rockies mountain system comprises the southeastern part of this system, laying between the Interior Plains of Alberta and Northeastern British Columbia on the east to the Rocky Mountain Trench of BC on the west. The southern end borders Idaho and Montana of the USA. In geographic terms the boundary is at the Canada/US border, but in geological terms it might be considered to be at Marias Pass in northern Montana. The northern end is at the Liard River in northern British Columbia. The Canadian Rockies have numerous high peaks and ranges, such as Mount Robson (Sometimes called Mount Bella) (3,954 m (12,972 ft)) and Mount Columbia (3,747 m (12,293 ft)). Much of the range is protected by national and provincial parks, several of which collectively comprise a World Heritage Site.

On the card you can see Moraine Lake in Banff National Park on a winter day.
